SUNSPOTS (2018 – 2022)

Sunspots, are a logical step forward  of several of the processes generated in Sungazing. A series of accompanying pieces made on transparent substrates are a continuation on this logic.

   As part of the digitizing and optimization of the 4×5″ plates from Sungazing with the purpose of their distribution on electronic media, the digitized plates are subjected once again to new visual artifacts in the process of their scanning –dust, particles, scratches, – which, in order for the images to function properly when re-mediated, need to be digitally retouched.

   These restoring actions are isolated as a different digital layer and, along with a layer isolating the sun path in the source image, then printed on transparent media.

   These transluscent prints recode themselves in their exhibition space as sculptural objects depending on the flexibility of the substrate they are printed on.
